I’ve been listening to this Armchair Expert episode with Richfresh, a fashion designer on the spectrum. He talks about being homeless in LA, at rock bottom, and having a full-blown conversation with a voice that came to him. This voice became a source of wisdom and guidance for him, helping him in eerily tangible and explicit ways in his life. Starts around the 40-minute mark.
The way Fresh describes fashion is like a reality distortion field. He realized he could start by looking good, even though he wasn’t feeling good inside. But once he projected high self-esteem in his clothing, it gave him an opportunity to build interest and respect from his peers. He grew into his clothes.
It feels like Fresh was able to tap into a deep property of the universe, that somehow reality isn’t just what we perceive, but what we are expecting to perceive. When he consciously modified his own perspective of reality, objective reality seemed to merge with his expectations.
When he consciously modified his own perspective of reality, his objective reality seemed to merge with his expectations.
And I’m not even being hyperbolic. It’s wild to hear just how precisely that played out for him. He told the voice — as a Hail Mary in his darkest hour in the homeless shelter — he wanted to make $14K that month. The voice required him, though, to give something up for that. He offered to give up coke, and liquor. He did, and that month, he made $14K. Huh. The next month he offered to give up meat, and to only engage with women non-sexually to curb his toxic dating life, and wanted to make $40K that month. Done, exactly $40K that month. Huh! Then $100K over the next three. All ordered precisely by him. It was like the universe was actively listening to him, observing him, and exchanging things with him.
It was like the universe was actively listening to him, observing him, and exchanging things with him.
Then Fresh had a dream that felt to him like a clear vision of the future. And in that dream, roughly four years ago, he saw the life he’s living today. A beautiful home, running his own operation, highly sought after, driving a sports car … and pink hair. It all came true.
When he saw that vision, it changed his perspective on his life. Suddenly he felt confident — completely certain — that he was on a path that would take him out of homelessness. He wasn’t homeless, he was in the homeless chapter of his story. And he had nothing to worry about, because he would soon be very rich.
He wasn’t homeless, he was in the homeless chapter of his story.
Suddenly, in place of the self-pity he was wallowing in, he felt a deep sense of gratitude for being given this clarity of vision. He developed a daily dialog with that voice, which became his trusted guide and confident.
There’s definitely a way to view Fresh’s experience as convincing himself that something was true, and then manifesting it. That’s the way it appears as an onlooker. But his felt experience was so much more than that for him. He was receiving guidance from within, and it worked with him explicitly to meet his goals. He turned 300 dollars into a million dollars in a few years.
You could read the book by Neale Donald Walsh, it's called "Conversations with God", the book that came first in the series changed my life, God talking to him like his best friend, Neale also went from homelessness to super successful and a famous author by communicating and trusting this voice of love.
I love this story. I feel that same guidance from God / Source / My Own Inner Voice whatever you wish to call it :) I was recently struggling to find a new direction in terms of employment and received some guidance just last month- the business type, logo and name came to me through the voice in a dream and I have no doubt it will be successful. I received a similar message when just out of college and it resulted in a 25+ career- In which I fully thrived until it was time to change pace to be home with my son. I also had a similar conversation hours before my son was conceived. I am truly thankful for this guidance and hope to receive more and more as I become more and more available and open to the direction.
